The Michelin® Group designs and develops high-tech agricultural tires tailored to your farming needs and expectations. A tire only satisfies needs if it allows you to conquer your everyday challenges.

The user is at the core of our design process.

Identification of these needs in terms of performance and product gives rise to specifications that form the basis for the agricultural tire development process.

Simulation

Like an architect who first of all works on drawings and on the choice of materials for a building, Michelin® Group engineers and technicians first design the structure of the ag tire using high-tech resources and software. Simulation software enables them to work on the structure of an agricultural tire and on the contact effects between the tread and the ground. It is   a progressive system which checks the state of the product manufactured at every stage against the customer's farmer's requirements.

Prototype

Once the architecture has been determined, an agriculture tire prototype is produced.

Tests

We conduct real-condition tests in our test centres and in fields. These tests are set up and conducted by engineers and technicians or by independent experts. They check whether the new agricultural tire meets the ever-demanding needs of users in terms of: soil compaction, fuel consumption, long service life, behaviour on soft/hard ground, safety, etc.

Placements

As soon as a product has passed our testing, they are placed with farmers and monitored. Thanks to our sales teams throughout the world, we can choose the most demanding conditions of use to ensure that our products meet your needs to improve your productivity.

The main performance aspects monitored are:

  • Tread rolling resistance to damage from hard, dry ground
  • Resistance to “Stubble damage” (damage to treads by corn, soya, sunflower and sugar cane stubble, etc.)
  • Sidewall damage resistance
  • Tire service life
  • Type of wear on tire tread

Launch

The tire is brought to market if we have proof from the user that their needs are met by tire performance. The Michelin® CerexBib tire, for example, has been placed with users – we would like to invite you to listen to their accounts.

MICHELIN® has a very large test centre in Almeria, Spain, which has the benefit of exceptional weather conditions: Europe’s lowest rainfall and stable temperatures. All key aspects of agricultural tyre performance are tested there in very severe conditions.
